The Aberdare Ranges, part of which form the Aberdare National Park rise up to
4001m and neighbor Mt. Kenya. The park, situated about 80 km from Nairobi is engrossed
with steeply sloped forested ridges separated by fast flowing streams and massive
water falls. Aberdares is host to Karuru Water Falls - the highest in Kenya -
that plunges 273m in three successive steps.
The ever low temperatures indicate the cool temperate climate in the Aberdares.
Here for the trekker are not only sights of unique vegetation and scenery but
also the opportunity to view a wide variety of wildlife and birds.
The beautiful scenery of the high altitudes and the magnificent views of Mt Kenya
add something special and unique to the area. The vast thickets of the Aberdares
host caves which were once home for the ‘ Mau Mau’ freedom fighters
during Kenya's Independence wars.
