Mt. Meru rises to 4566m and is rivaled only by Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Like all the other mountains in the region, it was formed by volcanic action and is well worth a visit. It is not only an ideal mountain for acclimatization for Kilimanjaro climbers but offers the sight of a spectacular classic volcanic cone with a knife edged horse shoe crater. The lush vegetation on the lower slopes harbor a lot of wildlife like Buffaloes, Waterbucks, zebras, elephants, and Columbus monkeys and baboons. Our trek takes you up the West Side of Mt. Meru from the side of Oldonyo Sambu and down right to the scenic Momella lodge on the eastern slopes.
