Located just Kms from the foot of Mt Meru and 130 Kms from the Kenya Tanzania
boarder point of Namanga. Its road link with Nairobi, Kenya is good and there
are regular scheduled bus services to the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The leading
of these is the IMPALA SHUTTLE. Kilimanjaro international airport is about 40
kms from Arusha town and has both international and local flights.
Arusha is northern Tanzania's centre of commerce and trade, and may well be one
of East Africa's fastest growing cities. The city, 1,540 m (5,053 ft) above sea
level, it is the starting point for many safaris of the northern circuit to Serengeti,
Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Mount Meru, and Arusha National
Parks.
Arusha National Park is one of the Tanzania smallest parks in Tanzania. Its main
features are Ngurdoto Crater, The Momella Lake, and rugged Mt. Meru 4566m Tanzania
second highest peak has a variety of vegetation zones supporting numerous animal
species.
Arusha is also the seat of the East African Community, and hosts the Rwanda tribunal.
Internet cafes are sprouting in the town as information technology becomes part
and parcel of the Tanzanian life. Local banks offer services to customers starting
at 8.30am to 3.30 pm from Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 12.30 pm on Saturdays. Also
bureau de changes are scattered in major tourist hotels found in the town.
Arusha has a vast number of hotels and curio shops brimming with handicrafts,
carvings and gemstones. Arusha is the central point in Africa between Cape Town
and Cairo.
