Around the 30 sq km saline Lake Bogoria lies the Bogoria Game Reserve. Here you
can find in the barren wilderness of rocks and scrubs some animals like Thompson
Gazelles, Kudus, Impalas and Klipspringers. Lake Bogoria also hosts thousands
of flamingoes which can reach numbers over one million particularly when Lake
Nakuru dries up. Another attraction here are the hot springs and geysers which
produce boiling hot water a reminder of the volcanic history of the area.
The history of the volcanic activities in the area is well explained in the Tugen
Mythology. According to the story, the selfish rich members of the community were
punished by the gods turning their grazing land rocky and barren with the geysers
being a reminder to the present day generations.
