Tarangiri National Park

• 2,600 sq km
• about 1100 m (sea level)
• Giant pythons
• Elephants, buffaloes
• Lions, Cheetah, Hyenas
• Plains game
• 550 bird species

Thirsty antelope and elephants wonder hundreds of kilometers from all around to Tarangire's permanent water source which makes it seem like just a trickle of water chocked with the wildlife. Herds of elephants 300 strong dig in the damp earth of the river bed in search of underground flows while elands, kudus, buffaloes, giraffes, waterbucks and wild beasts mingle around each shrinking lagoon.

Giant pythons climb into the shades of trees that line Tarangire's massive southern swamps and hang there like giant malignant fruit coils neatly arranged over the branches in a perfect sphere. In the dry season Tarangire enjoys the greatest concentration of wildlife. The huge herds of elephants here rival the parks gigantic baobab trees. Ancient matriarchs, feisty young bulls and tiny stumbling calves are ever present to fascinate visitors with their grace, intelligence and majesty.

The best time to visit Tarangire for Wildlife viewing is the dry season from June to October.
