Kenya Migration Safari

Tour Highlights

Nowhere in the world is there a movement of animals as immense as the Wildebeest Migration, over two million animals migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in July through to October. Crossing the Mara River alive is a highlight of the migration as crocodiles lie in wait for a free meal. In the Maasai Mara they are hunted, stalked, and run down by the larger carnivores.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Nairobi – Bogoria
After breakfast we will leave Nairobi and drive to Lake Bogoria. We stop briefly at the Rift Valley view Point and get to enjoy the incredible Rift Valley scenery. After the brief stop we will drive to Lake Bogoria, home to flamingoes, pelicans and plains game on its lake shores. We visit the Hot Springs on our game drives. The Hot Springs are evidence of the volcanic activities in the Rift Valley. We can opt to dive into the natural swimming pool fed by the hot springs which are believed to have healing properties for various diseases. Dinner and Overnight stay will be at the Lomanira Splendour located right at the equator.

Day 2: Transfer to Nakuru
We take an early breakfast and start off the day’s adventures at 7.00 am with a 2 hour drive to the Lake Nakuru National Park. Accompanied by packed lunch we get to freely explore the park on game drives. Game drives here reveal abundant birds and wildlife with flamingoes on the lake shores being most prominent. Nakuru is also a Rhino Sanctuary with a population of over 100 white and black rhinos. The fenced park hosts all the “Big Five” except for elephants. From the baboon cliff we have a perfect view of the entire park and Nakuru town in the backdrop. Dinner and the overnight stay will be at Waterbuck hotel.

Day 3: Drive to Maasai Mara
Today we drive to the Maasai Mara. Depending on the road conditions, we will use the Mau Narok route or the Mai Mahiu route. The drive takes you through Narok, a colorful Maasai town where we can opt for a short stop before we proceed to the Maasai Mara. We arrive at the Reserve just in time for lunch at the Osero Camp. In the afternoon, we embark on our first game drive in the vast maasai mara which is regarded as the Seventh wonder of the world. The Mara is an extension of the Serengeti in Tanzania. The “Big Five” are found here. With some luck we may spot some of them today. We return to the camp at sunset for our dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Full day Masai Mara Game drives
Today we can opt to spend the entire day on a game drive with packed lunch or have an early morning and evening game drive with lunch at the camp/lodge. Our driver will advise us on the best choice the previous evening for the best game viewing opportunity. The wealth of wildlife at the Maasai Mara is unrivalled in Africa, particularly during the migration of the wildebeests from July to October when thousands of Wildebeests and Zebras enter the Maasai Mara from the Serengeti followed by predators. Dinner and the overnight stay will once again be at Osero Lodge.

Day 5: Morning game drives transfer to Naivasha
We may opt for an early morning game drive before breakfast. We leave the Maasai Mara after breakfast and stop for lunch in Narok on our way to Naivasha. After a brief rest we explore Lake Naivasha on a boat excursion. The lake is home to about 400 hippos and with some luck we can spot them in the water and a variety of birdlife such as Pelicans, Kingfishers, marabou storks and fish eagles. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Fish Eagle Inn.
